This privacy notice explains how we use your personal information when you enquire about a home, when you buy a home with us and when you move in to your home.
Who we are
Accent Homemade Limited is a subsidiary of Accent Group Limited, a national social housing provider which owns and manages around 21,000 homes across England. Within our group structure there are a number of subsidiaries, including Accent Housing Limited.
We may need to share your personal information within our group of companies in order to provide services to you, both during and after the sales process
Any references to ‘we’, ‘our’ or ‘us’ in this notice relate to Accent Group and our subsidiaries.
The personal information that we collect
- Name, address contact details including mobile number and email address.
- Date of birth, gender, marital status, employment status and household details
- Financial details, including your income and any mortgages, loans, credit cards or other financial commitments you may have.
If you are an Accent Housing customer, we may already hold some of the information listed above. We may also need to consider whether there are any current or expected debts that may affect your application. If you have previously lived in an Accent Housing homes and have outstanding debt, we may also take this into consideration.
Where we get information from
Most of the information that we collect comes directly from you but we may also need to collect information from other organisations such as:
- credit reference agencies;
- Help to Buy agents;
- estate agents;
- financial advisors;
- mortgage lenders.
How we use personal information
Accent Homemade acts as data controller for your personal information when you enquire about a home and whilst you are purchasing a home
When you enquire about a home, we will use your information to send you details of the homes that you are interested in. If you have given us permission, we may add your details to our marketing lists and send you information about similar homes that may be of interest to you. You can withdraw this permission at any time by contacting us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
When you reserve a home, we will use your information to manage the legal sales process and carry out any enquiries and checks that may be required, such as credit searches and money laundering checks. We may also use your information to manage the warranties (such as NHBC) that cover your home and deal with any claims on them.
When you move in to your home, we will use your information to provide you with any ongoing services that may be required such as dealing with repairs or defects, maintaining the areas around your home and collecting any service charges from you. We may also ask you to take part in surveys to understand how satisfied you are with your home and/or our services.
Data protection law allows us to use personal information, but only if we have a proper and lawful reason to do so. We use your information for the following lawful reasons:
- To manage a contract that you have with us, which will be your sales contract.
- To meet a legal duty, for example where we need to carry out money laundering checks.
- When it is in our legitimate interests to do something. This includes: asking you to take part in surveys and carrying out checks to make sure you can afford your home.
- When you give us permission to use your information in a particular way, for example when you agree to receive marketing from us.
Sharing your information
We may share your information with your representatives and agents such as your solicitor and your mortgage lender.
We may share your information with our legal advisors and credit reference agencies. We may also need to share your information with the police or the courts if they are investigating crime or if we have to do so by law.
We may share your information with third party contractors and consultants in order to maintain your home and deal with any defects.
Storing your information
We will keep your information safe and put appropriate security measures in place to protect it.
If you sell your home, we will keep your information for up to seven years afterwards. We may need to keep your information for longer than this though if you still need to settle outstanding service charges or other debt.
You have a right to see or have a copy of your personal information. You also have the right to have any incorrect information we hold about you corrected.
In certain cases you have the right to:
- object to how we use your personal information or restrict how we use it;
- have some of the information we hold about you deleted; and
- have your information transferred to another organisation.
